Welcome back to regular-style Bobwhite!

As some of you have noticed, it’s coming up to the end of the school year, and the girls are seniors. So I’d like to take this moment to announce that yes, Bobwhite has about a month left. Four weeks, give or take. I’ll be launching a new comics project soon, hopefully before Bobwhite ends, but I thought I’d give you guys a heads up. I’ll write a little more about what the comic means to me, and what you readers mean to me, when it actually ends. I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately though, and you guys are free to share your thoughts in the comments. Thank you all so much for reading and being so vocal and supportive. <3

Bob White has always been one of my favourites, looking forward to the next project!

  2. Emad says:

    Oh mags,

I’m sad to see them go, but I’m happy they get to live their lives without you having to shoehorn in WACKY ADVENTURES!

And yes in my mind, they are real people.

  3. sandchigger says:

I knew they’d eventually graduate and you’d stop making the comic, that doesn’t really lessen the sadness I feel at seeing the day swiftly approaching. Thanks for all the laughs, Mags.

  4. James Purcell says:

The End of Bobwhite. The implied, inevitable announcement. I’ve been following this strip since its start (or at least since Kris Straub linked it, early in its first year) since then its pretty much been my number one daily webcomic. Its sense of humor is unparallelled, its cast endearing, and its artwork impeccable. I’m both devastated its ending, but excited something else will be starting.

  5. Roto13 says:

I was expecting this, but I’m really sad that it’s ending. I love this comic and the characters. It’s like they’re dying oh my god!

  6. Yazzydream says:

I saw how excited you are for the next project on Tumblr which makes me really excited too! I’m gonna miss Bob White a ton, this is such an amazing comic and your characters have evolved and grown up so much. Have you considered collecting them all and selling it as a book? Because I would totes buy that. Anyway, yeah, much love.

  7. Steve says:

I’ve been a fan since nearly day 1. Your characters are intoxicating, I became hooked and I can’t get enough! There will definitely be a void once they’re gone, but I am also excited about whatever new project you have up your sleeves!

  8. Yhynens says:

Honestly, I still think The Good Crook was a superior comic in almost every way, so I’ve been looking forward to your new project and kind of hoping it will be a return to a more narrative, shorter formed style. Bobwhite was funny, and the characters were (for the most part, and on levels that seem to differ across readers) endearing, and your sense of episodic, serial storytelling is extremely well developed, but there were times when I thought you’d totally lost it and, like you apparently heard my friend tell you, there was way too much Cleo this past year when she is a significantly weaker character than the other two main girls (who each have much more compelling development and storylines, while Cleo seems more like a gag-centric character.) Still, despite that I’ve enjoyed it, I’m glad that it’s coming to a natural end rather than going on indefinitely until it sours on me and I remove it from my bookmarks, like most other comics I’ve read. Knowing when to end is a rare trick that I think far too few people ever get the hang of.
Still, I think this is and has been one of the best webcomics around, and this is coming from a dude who has read a lot of webcomics and is known for hating about everything he reads. Nothing’s perfect, but this work is one of the few that comes close to it.
That’s all storytelling; I’m not an artist. I like the way the styles changed in this, unlike most comics which stick with a single style. I’m in no position to critique the artwork, really, but it was almost universally pleasing, at least all of what I can remember was. Even when you were unable to color, it was still evocative and entertaining.
I hope you don’t take offense to anything I’ve said. I’m merely voicing my honest opinion (as Ivy threatened to do once, but I can’t find the comic to link. I’m sure you remember it.) I’ve taken my fair share of workshops, too, and I’ve endeavored to only ever be honest in them. Thanks for a wonderful comic either way.

I only discovered this comic a few days ago and read through the archives last night. I’m sorry to see that I’ve only picked it up right now at the end of things since I’ve enjoyed it quite a lot (by the way, you really should consider putting the whole run together in a book.)
While I would like to see what the characters do after this I can understand ending it now. This series has been one of the best examples of character development I’ve seen in webcomics.

  10. Rachie says:

Life without bobwhite?? WHAT WILL I DO!?
I really liked The Good Crook and was flailing around after I’d finished that…and then I found out you had this comic and life was good again!

I hope your next comic will be just as awesome! Keep up the good work!

  11. Tyler says:

onward and upward i say! while i will miss the girls, i think i would miss your next project even more. just make sure you put bob white into a nice bound volume so it may sit forever on my self.

  12. Dave says:

BobWhite has been on my daily read list for aaaaaaaaages now. I am sad to see it go but happy it is ending on it’s own terms. Looking forward to the new project!

  13. Pamela Kelly says:

    Two words: grad school.

  14. yitz says:

Guys do actually talk like that, particularly when they’re young and really, really self-involved. (Dude acts a lot like I did in college…)

Cleo has the worst luck with boys.

  15. Sela says:

I’ll be sad to see this comic end, but I have to give you kudos for your artistic integrity to stay true to the comic.

  16. paperjellyfish says:

How IS that possible that Ben is his Bruce’s best guy friend?

  17. Rachel says:

The idea of not checking Bobwhite every morning is so sad

I’ve been reading Bobwhite since it started, because I loved The Good Crook so much! I actually prefer Bobwhite, simply because my and my sisters ARE THESE THREE GIRLS.

I’m so excited to see what you’ve got in store!! Keep up the great work!

  18. Lee says:

Bobwhite has become my favorite webcomic. I can’t wait to see what you start on next.

  19. Lesley says:

NOOOOOOOOOOOO! At least please tie up all the romantic details before you finish?! I want Ivy and Lewis to end up together in Portland or Brooklyn and Marlene to have a film at Cannes and Cleo to be with her favorite Pokemon? Pliz?

  20. Joseph says:

I found The Good Crook shortly before it ended. At first I found the transition to Bobwhite a little difficult, as I was expecting more of the same style. It was also harder to recommend Bobwhite, due to peoples’ glaze-eyed reaction to another comic about college roommates. Well, the updates kept coming and the humor was consistently good, and I got pretty well hooked. I have to agree that Bobwhite is currently a favorite of mine. I like it more than Octopus Pie.

  21. DOG says:

I love Bobwhite very much, but I agree, I’m glad you were able to decide a natural ending point for the comic. I would have liked to seen more from ivy’s life recently but I think the direction you’ve taken the comic in was well thought-out and engaging. I loved Good Crook and I’m glad I could be around to see your style and characters develop as you go. I’ve always loved your knack for character design and I’m sure I’ll be a regular follower and poster for your next series. I’m sure you’ll have the support of your fans in any of your comic endeavors, can’t wait to see what you have up your sleeve!

  22. jec says:

no… it really is ending..? and in just a month..? Bobwhite has been my favorite webcomic since.. well, since I found it, really. I absolutely adore the humor and love the occasional, gag-tinted depth found in the characters, themes and storylines. It’s also been enjoyable to watch your panelling/storytelling/coloring/etc develop over the course of the story as well and.. wahhhh, I just don’t want it to end. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this comic, so much.
You’ll keep it online, right? I’ve already re-read it from the start a couple times, and I think I’ll have to do that at least once more on the day you post the final comic. With a bowl of ice cream and some tissues in hand.

Still, despite my sadness at the inevitable end of Bobwhite, I’m looking forward to your next piece already! I’ll be excited to see what you try out. 🙂 You’ve definitely gained (yet another) fan for life.

Bobwhite has earned not only my adoration, but you, as the creator, have earned my respect. I have truly enjoyed reading this comic. Thank you so much for sharing it.

  23. Elizabeth says:

I’ll be sorry to see Bobwhite end, since it definitely places in my list of top five favorite comics. But I also think it’s a good call to finish it in a place that makes sense rather than risking the possibility of things petering out and ending on a weaker note. And I’m happy to hear that you’re starting a new project! I anticipate that eagerly.

  24. Brian says:

I’d like to add my voice of thanks as well. Your comic has been by far one of the most consistently fun for me to read over the last two years, and I’d love to see what you do next. Something this good is a gift, and once again, I thank you for it. I’d totally buy a print version in a second.

  25. Bobisagirl says:

This may be lack of sleep talking, but I honestly think I will cry when this strip ends. I will miss the characters and the stories, but good luck on your new project and you bet I’ll be following that as well :p

  26. charliezarts says:

I also only discovered this comic a couple of days ago and I want you to know that it’s fantastic. I’m really sad that it’s ending but I do look forward to your next projects.

  27. Zaorish says:

Wow…ending already? I only discovered this thing last week!! Ah well… while I certainly wouldn’t be displeased to see all the girls go to Grad School (if they’re anything like my sister, and they are, there’d be endless drama to be had at a GSD), I understand all your reasons.

But damn, magnolia…Bobwhite was, or is, whichever, fucking AWESOME. There is simply no comic out there that’s funnier. But yeah, follow your dreams and stuff and we’ll see what comes next.

  28. Brocket says:

Bobwhite was (is) (and will be) one of the best things on the net. I really enjoyed every part of it and though I’m sad it now comes to an end, I’m also very interested to see what will replace it. You are a very talented artist, able of fabulous character development supported by great art.

Thanks to share your talent with us!

  29. barbaric yip says:

Bobwhite has been, hands down, my favorite comic since, uh, really soon after discovering it, about a year and a half ago. It is unfailingly funny even after college, and it repeatedly astounds me how much I really, truly, deeply care about the girls. Thank you for sharing it with us for so long.

  30. arasta says:

in the same sort of tone as those at the end of the night calling the DJ for “one more, one more, one more!”

    Grad school.

id be satisfied with Ivy-as-teacher getting to grips with a new sassy bobwhite crowd giving her crap with the occasional cleo-marlene cameo, tho.

i love the three characters, mar cos shes that sort of snobbish f&TV crowd i used to circulate in, cleo cos shes just batshit insane and Ivy cos shes a downright cynic. i know why Frank tapped her for the job – been there did that bought the damn tshirt …..

would be nice to see a college strip have them *actually* hang together post college, tho i know thats not always realistic /checks self. errh

been so many laughs tho, ive said it before but since kris linked it bobwhite has been glued to my must-read comix list. its something about that dry humour, hanni picked it perfectly and made me fully laugh myself silly with that guest strip

‘Fuck you and your fucking book, Lewis’ ‘?'(!)

precisely the ascerbic wit i enjoy. the Alt-txt is just icing on the cake (more comix need alt-Txt! xkcd and Girls With Slingshots do but more need to….dammnit!)

  31. Yuri says:

I have been reading bobwhite for two years now. I check for updates every weekday! It’s been a smart, fun ride, and I will miss Marlene, Ivy, and Cleo a lot.

Greatly looking forward to whatever you do next, Magnolia!

  32. franki says:

I only discovered bobwhite about a week ago, guestlinked from Gunnerkrigg or one of my others. I just got through the archive today and I’m glad you’ve decided to wrap it up neatly rather than drag it out. It’s a fantastic piece of work and one that has grabbed me in a way that webcomics that are just about people & their lives & don’t have some fantasy/game/scifi hook for random silliness rarely do. Now I guess I’ll have to go and see what this Good Crook thing is all about. Good luck with the next project & I’m looking forward to seeing this one come to a satisfying close.

  33. James H says:

Ending? I could hardly believe it. I’ve really kinda become so accustomed to having Bobwhite in my toolbar and visiting it each day for a good laugh or story. I’m gonna miss it when it’s gone, but all good things must end. :’)

Looking forward to your next project then. 🙂

  34. Emily says:

Bobwhite has been my favorite comic for so long, I’d be sad to see it go, but I’m excited to see a new project. Your humor and wit is unmatched in the world.

  35. lily says:

Thanks for everything. This comic has been super great. I’ll miss it. :c

  36. Pip says:

My heart actually hurts a little at the thought of saying goodbye to these three, they are so personable, and identifiable and and… I just love them so muuuuch. They make me feel like I can survive, too, as an art student. Thank you so much for this story, and I’m looking forward to all of your future projects 🙂

  37. smallhound says:

The end of this comic is feels like saying goodbye to a lot of good friends.

  38. squeaky says:

Aww, but I just found you last week! Why do you give this to me and then take it away? Whyy?

  39. Deborah says:

I love you. And I love Karl Kerschl for mentioning you! This people are a part of my life, and I’ve only been reading for about a little over a week. You’re awesome, and I’m a new fan! I can’t wait for your next project! 😀
